Basic SEO Editing with Yoast in WordPress
Optimising your pages and posts for search engines helps more people find your website. With the Yoast SEO plugin (installed on all LFW sites), you can easily edit titles, descriptions, and keywords.
Step 1 – Log in to WordPress
From WHMCS or /wp-admin, log in to your WordPress dashboard.

Step 2 – Edit a Page or Post
Go to Pages or Posts and click Edit on the one you want to optimise.

Step 3 – Scroll to the Yoast SEO Box
Below the content editor, find the Yoast SEO panel.

Step 4 – Edit SEO Title
-
The SEO title is what shows in Google search results.
-
Keep it short, descriptive, and include your main keyword.
-
Example: Affordable Web Design in Tauranga | LFW

Step 5 – Edit Meta Description
-
Write a short summary (around 150–160 characters).
-
Use keywords naturally and make it inviting to click.
-
Example: Get a free website built by Localist Free Websites. Professionally designed, fully hosted, and supported.

Step 6 – Enter Focus Keyphrase
Add the main keyword you want the page to rank for (e.g., “Tauranga web design”).
Yoast will give you a green/orange/red score to show how well your content matches.

Step 7 – Check the SEO Analysis
Scroll down to see Yoast’s checklist (readability, keywords, links, images).
Fix anything marked red where possible.

Step 8 – Save or Update the Page
Click Update (for existing content) or Publish (for new content).
Additional Notes
-
Aim for green lights in Yoast, but don’t stress if not every item is green.
-
Always write for people first, search engines second.
-
Meta descriptions don’t directly affect ranking, but they do affect click-throughs.
